The SafeWrap Online Instructor Certification Program (Online ICP) is an interactive online course that teaches the exact same techniques and instructional methodologies used in the live, in-person SafeWrap Instructor Certification Courses.
This certification path is ideal for individuals who wish to become Independent or Institutional SafeWrap Instructors but are unable to attend an in-person course. All material is delivered through high-quality online video lessons, and all testing is completed through video upload, allowing you to complete the program and become a SafeWrap instructor from anywhere in the world.
30-Day Online Course
Once you are granted access to the SafeWrap Online ICP, you will have 30 days to complete the certification process. You will begin by learning the full SafeWrap system to develop proper execution and muscle memory. Next, you will study the essential Gracie Teaching Methodologies to prepare you to effectively teach the system. Finally, you will demonstrate your proficiency through our Video Evaluation Process. Upon meeting Gracie University standards, you will be awarded your SafeWrap Instructor Certification.
Qualifications
No prior experience is required to participate in the SafeWrap Online ICP. All that is needed is an internet connection and a soft training surface. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and those applying as Independent Instructors must successfully pass a criminal background check. Training Partners
SafeWrap is a two-person restraint system. For effective practice and evaluation, you will need at least two dedicated training partners (for a total of three participants), allowing two individuals to apply the system on a third. Please note that each Online ICP application, evaluation, and certification is issued to a single individual. If your training partners wish to become certified, they must submit their own applications and evaluation videos.
Instructor Handbook
Once you unlock the online program, you will be able to download the official SafeWrap Instructor Handbook (PDF), which outlines all techniques and teaching methodologies covered in the course. We recommend printing the handbook at the beginning of the program so you have a physical reference throughout your training. In addition to helping you track your progress, the handbook will serve as a valuable resource when teaching the SafeWrap system.
Evaluation Process
Upon completing the Online ICP, you will be required to demonstrate your technical proficiency and teaching skills through our Video Evaluation Process. On or before the 30-day deadline, you will upload four separate videos that meet the specific criteria outlined in the course. A SafeWrap Master Instructor will review your submissions, and if your performance meets Gracie University standards, you will be awarded your SafeWrap Instructor Certification.
Your first attempt at the Video Evaluation is included in the cost of the Online ICP. If you do not submit your evaluation videos by the 30-day deadline, or if you do not pass on your first attempt, you may request a 30-day extension for an additional fee. This extension will grant you continued access to the program for another 30 days and provide an additional opportunity to submit your Video Evaluation.
Certification Period
Upon successful completion of the Online ICP, you will receive a SafeWrap Instructor Certificate, a SafeWrap Instructor T-shirt, and a SafeWrap Challenge Coin. Certification is valid for two years, after which recertification is required. Recertification can be completed through live course attendance or online video evaluation.
Licensing Requirement
SafeWrap is a proprietary restraint system that requires an active license for use. Upon completing the course, you will need to obtain the appropriate license before any instruction is authorized. Any certified instructor who conducts SafeWrap training without the appropriate license risks having their certification revoked.
Online Course Access
During the two-year certification period, you will have full access to the complete SafeWrap online video curriculum. Instructor lessons can be easily accessed using the QR codes provided in your downloadable SafeWrap Instructor Handbook. The curriculum is regularly updated with technique refinements and program enhancements, and includes private forums where you can ask questions and receive guidance directly from SafeWrap Master Instructors. This serves as a valuable ongoing resource for all instructors.
Expert Witness Support
Should litigation arise related to the use of SafeWrap techniques by end-users within within any licensed organization, Gracie University Master Instructors will be available to testify as subject matter experts on the organization’s behalf, provided that the instructors who trained the staff members involved hold a valid SafeWrap Instructor Certification at the time of instruction.

- Submit Application
Submit an application and payment for the SafeWrap Online ICP. If your training partners also wish to pursue certification, each individual must submit a separate application.
- Unlock the Program
If your application is approved, you will have up to 12 months to unlock the course and start learning. Once started, you will have 30 days to complete the certification process.
- Take the Test
On or before the 30-day deadline, record and upload the SafeWrap testing videos for evaluation. If you pass, you join the global community of SafeWrap Certified Instructors.
