Q. Question: what does the word "kuzushi" mean, literally?
Connor the Elder (7/28/2026 4:24 PM)
A. Kuzushi means unbalancing or breaking the balance of an opponent. It comes from the Japanese verb kuzusu, which means to pull down, destroy, or level.

Q. Not a question here, but I realized not long ago that in order to sweep/ tip someone from a bottom position (whether it be half guard or full guard or mount etc), the other person's center of gravity (their "weight") is in their hips, and when I loaded their "weight" onto my hips, they were tippable. I didn't know how to explain it but the tripod theory in this video gave me an "aha" moment!
