Q. Are a lot of these moves able to be learned by kids that are only recently starting?
Octopus3 (7/28/2022 4:50 PM)
A. Check out the Bullyproof program - it's tailored to kids.

Q. While watching this philosophy video, this instantly reminded me of me learning the same consept from a completely different context, trading card games. Students of technique sounded exactly like net deckers (people who only use specific decks used in tournaments), and students of principal sounded exactly like deck brewers (people who make there own decks and when looking at online decks take inspiration from other decks and make similar consepts work in there own decks after months of experimentation). I never would have guessed that I would be relating Magic the Gathering and Yugioh to Gracie philosophy and Gracie Jujitsu. I have taken a liking to the philosophy taught in previous videos and I can't wait to finish the series.
Steadylynx3 (2/28/2021 1:09 AM)
A. Thank you for the feedback!

Q. How much does talent play a role in student's learning in your experience since you have taught thousands of student?
HaochenLi (2/3/2021 3:54 PM)
A. It certainly can accelerate learning, but the beauty of Gracie jiu-jitsu is that almost anyone can make it work average athleticism, flexibility, and coordination.

Q. I haven’t even started physically and it is drastically changing my life. Is there more philosophy on how to understand when there is a life ( jujitsu, work, relationships, etc.) principle so I can Recognize (indicator)and extract it? It is part of my philosophy to learn to be a learner out of respect for my own potential and respect for those who teach me. But it seems I’ve always been a technical guy. Any help is welcome. Thank you. 🙏🏻
YusefBen (11/7/2020 3:05 PM)
A. Watch all of the Gracie philosophy videos for more insight on how to bring jiu-jitsu into your life.

Q. Early in the lesson, the brother on the left (I'm bad with names) mentioned 2 things his grandfather told him. The audio had an echo and I did not catch It What were those two things were. TIA
WILSON TOG (7/16/2020 2:52 PM)
A. Ryron didn't say. He was just making the point that his mindset change enabled him to progress to the next level. He said he would tell us what his grandfather said at another time.
Gracie University 1
Q. You were saying that you’re only teaching us 50% of what there is to know. And the rest will come naturally as we grow within that technique . Do you only teach the 50% because it’s too much information and can be overwhelming to remember or is it because the concern is that we may not have the ability to absorb 100% of the information all at once
Shawn Breton (7/13/2020 4:29 PM)
A. It's because the other 50% is based on what YOU learn from applying and practicing the technique. Your physical attributes, temperament, learning skills, discipline, training schedule, and partners will contribute to how you harvest the remaining knowledge. We could expedite your ability to learn more, but that would require private lessons and we can't get there in this format given the thousands of students in our courses.

Q. Good principles are the essence of a balanced life - practice sports, health & higene, good habits, healthy food... Well...I have been putting this in practice...whata challenge gentlemen! Tis is not easy but worth persisting it! The interview is fantastic! (unfortunatelly available only in portuguese) Black Belt Fabio Franco Shimon shares his experience on the mat helping other to focus on what really matters in life! I do believe that the Torah will deeply lapidate the GJJ. Hope you enjoy it! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6SC2fpC3AQ&list=PLEkKz2fY9GnRtXxh8bRcwJVHtDvJbyO1V&index=6). Thank you for sharing your knowledge and life´s wisdom!
Marcus Avichai (5/23/2020 10:04 AM)
A. Thanks for the kind words!
Gracie University 1
Q. They say that they are concerned that the principles will be lost in the details, but I think that the details allow you to uncover and understand the “WHY” which in itself is a basis’s for principles. Their for for me the deeper the better.
Groth (2/11/2020 1:57 AM)
A. Agreed.

Q. Can we say that have a good jiujitsu game is a sign of jiujitsu mastery for the practitioners?
taqiudin (10/12/2019 6:54 PM)
A. They are well on their way.

Q. The best thing you guys are teaching is 'how' to teach more than 'what' to teach. I'm very impressed. More a comment than a question. Take care.
"judo"  (6/14/2019 1:40 AM)
A. Thank you for the compliment!

A. Please re-post your question in the "Help/Tech Support" forum so we may help you more efficiently, thanks!

Q. Have you considered writing an instructional, multi-media text on the technical principles of GJJ and the process of self-discovery that allows one to embody the additional 50% (i.e. 100% of GJJ) that one needs to "make it to black belt", learn between the lines, become a student of GJJ principles, and naturally discover new principles that apply both on the mat in within one's everyday life? #studentofprinciples #GJJprinciples #principlesforlife #learnhowtolearn #keepitplayful #jogoGJJ
Paredão  (7/16/2018 11:20 PM)
A. Everyone has to write their own book! We can merely offer suggestions and show the way!
GracieUniversity8
Q. Gang, there's a typo on the third bullet point under, 'Powerful Principles'. It should read, "The Gracies will only give....". Thanks so much for the wonderful knowledge.

Q. Being a student of principle is amaaazing. I've been putting it into practice and that right there has advanced my development by months or maybe even years. It's like having a secret weapon. Thank you sooo much... I've offered it to others but they don't want it. What's up with that?!?
Charrua23 (9/9/2015 10:12 PM)
A. What they don't know can hurt them!
Gracie University 1
Q. Hey guys great video! Really appreciate you pointing out the reading between the lines part. I was wondering about the red belt, what does it take to achieve? Also is there any special philosophy behind it?
BradN (3/2/2014 2:31 AM)
A. Thanks, and it's LEARNING between the lines! Please re-post your red belt question in the "History" forum, thanks.

Q. Thank you so much for that video. Everybody should check that out. Very informative.

Q. What is your opinion about the amount of techniques one must "master"? There are a lot of techniques that are tested on but how many are mastered. I feel its better to go deep rather then wide. Like Ryrons armlocks, he has seemingly gone very deep with armlocks. I mean there are hundreds of techniques to test on and sure someone can pass them then and there after hard studying, but two years down the road would they retain half of the techniques they had tested on? Ryron, out of all the techniques you know, if you really step up your game against another high level BB, what would you use? How many have you truly mastered? Look at Rousey for example, she mastered the armlock. Is learning 600 more techniques going to matter to her? Wouldn't learning more about the principle of how she gets to the armlock be more beneficial?
Teewinot (1/28/2014 4:57 PM)

Q. Was thinking about the basics of GJJ on my way to training yesterday, could Gracie Jiu Jitsu be defined as complete mastery of 1.Managing Distance 2.Achieving a Dominate Position and 3. Finishing the Fight? It seems that its principles #1 and #3 that make it so special from other martial arts and especially BJJ. It seems that more and more, sport BJJ techniques, strategies and focus is SOLELY on #2, achieveing a dominate position, but just focuing on that robs the art of its martial capability...am I on track in thinking this? That mastery of ALL THREE is what makes someone a GRACIE jiu jitsu master?
Loewen (5/29/2013 8:03 PM)
A. You've accurately described the fight strategy, but don't forget the foundational principles of energy conservation, punch safety, and natural body movements that underly every technique.
Gracie University 1
Q. Correct me if I'm wrong but another example of principles is the Royce Gracie vs Akebono fight. I believe Royce was going for a omoplata shoulder lock and didn't get into exact finishing position but relying on the principle of how the lock is finished still was able to get the tap by twisting the arm with the hands instead of traping it under the stomach. Basicly getting the same result.
Marvelous1 (5/17/2013 9:18 AM)
A. Correct!
GracieUniversity8
Q. This was an extremely eye-opening lesson. This should be required viewing for everyone studying Jiujitsu. You two are amazing teachers - much respect!!
DanS (4/3/2013 8:43 PM)
A. Thanks, we agree!
GracieUniversity8
Q. The philosophy of principles can go beyond "learning between the lines" in Jiu-Jitsu. It is a practical life application.
jcporto (1/25/2013 8:53 AM)
A. Agreed!

Q. Ryron, so those were the two sentences that your grandfather said to you to make your defense go from brown belt to black belt in two weeks. "Stop trying to beat Royce. Just don't lose."-Helio Gracie Keeping it real in Brooklyn!!!
OnFire (7/17/2012 1:36 PM)
A. Correct.

Q. when we test for our blue belt (combatives) or any other belt, and on our video test, if we use the "principles" other than the exact techniques will we have points taken off our test scores?
mkultracanidate (7/15/2012 5:17 PM)
A. Demonstrate the techniques exactly as Ryron and Rener have taught them, and you can't go wrong.
GracieUniversity8
Q. Having recently received my blue belt, this is by far one of the most important aspects of truly studying this art. I constantly reflect on it and try to find the different principles involved in a technique. When I'm sparring, I find myself not thinking
Roberto_MC (7/5/2012 2:15 PM)
A. Exactly! Congratulations on your Blue Belt. Keep the fire!

Q. I actually thought you had to lock your legs when you do a leg triangle. I was so frustrated that I kinda gave up on the triangle choke when wrestling my older brother who is a really big guy. Thank you for telling me that I don't have to lock my legs per
